What are some good dog names for a Wheaten Terrier?

December 12, 2011 - 10:09 pm 9 Comments

Well, I might be getting a 6 or 8 month old Wheaten Terrier soon, that already has a name, and we are going to rename it! Do any of you have any good names?

* The two dogs we are looking at are both different genders! So we need girl and boy names!

Barley – goes with the colour and the ‘wheaten’ link.

What are some dog breeds that you believe are best to purchase from the country they originated from?

November 30, 2011 - 12:37 am 13 Comments

Just wondering.

Also, do you think that for some breeds, the country they originated from try and stay more true to the breed than other countries that sell/breed the same breed?

If you could purchase any dog breed from another country-what breed would it be?

Also I apologize if some wording for this question seems off, I couldn’t think of how to word some of it better. Thank you in advance to anyone to responds!
Thank you all for your input, it was interesting to read and many gave good points.

well that is not generally true, there are some cases where the breed is more correct from their originated countries, like german pointers from germany, vizslas from hungary, russian toy terriers from russia, akita inu from japan, german shepherds from germany… these breeds (well the ones that are actually coming to me now) if you choose to get them from their originated countries, they would be nicer… but i have also seen dogs like yorkshire terriers, in poland they have kennels of the nicest looking dogs, also in hungary… chihuahuas the same, and i believe that most dogs that you would purchase from russia would be absolutely stunning, i.e french poodles of all the sizes, chinese crested both hairless and powder-puff, afghan hounds, german shepherds, caucasian shepherds and so many more… i believe it all has to do with breeding the right dogs together, finding the finest bloodlines, all my dogs apart from my yoirkies came from russia… they all became champions in my country and in russia too. so it all comes down to crossing the best of the best bloodlines together

What dog breed sheds the least and is good for young kids?

My parents are thinking of getting a dog for my 11 and 9 year old bro n sister but my mom wants a dog that doesn’t shed very much we’be had a dog before but it had to be put down after a year due to numerous tumors. I wanted to know what breed of dogs do not shed much and are good with kids / playful?

Well, poodle crosses are really sweet and playful, great with kids and small. My cousin has a little dog which is a mix between a poodle and a Maltese Terrier, and she is very adorable. They have really curly fur, it doesn’t shed at all and they have such a sweet personality.

My cousins dog, Marley, is very playful and energetic. She is really quite calm and loving when in the house, she’ll walk around, like your ankles and sit on your lap. She even falls asleep sometimes! As soon as she sees the lead, she sits for us at the front door and waits, and she is very good on the lead. When she’s in the park, she is very social, runs very fast, loves to run back and forth, but she’s not big enough to pick up a ball! She will bring us back a stick, though.

I have known 5 malti-poo’s in my life, and they have all been the same, very lovely and small, loving and they all adore kids. They can live for up to 10 years. I highly recommend a malti-poo, especially around young children, as they actually don’t shed at all!

What dog breed is good around a lot of people?

November 14, 2011 - 10:37 pm 11 Comments

I have a huge family and my house is full on the weekends with adults and children. I am wondering what dog breed is good with a lot of people around? We are not looking for a dog just yet but i wanted to know if there even was a breed that is better around groups of people, because not only do we always have people over we like to take our dog where ever my family goes. We prefer big dogs but any information would be helpful. Thanks

While say a Golden is more likely to be good than a Shepherd, much of it has to do with early socialization. Get a puppy by 7-8 weeks and get it out around people, crowds, kids, men, women, other ethnic groups, people wearing hats, whatever, and it will do well later.

When selecting a dog, I often say follow your heart. What do you want, a Mastiff, a Lab, an Aussie, a standard Poodle, etc., get it young and start it off right.

Someone please tell me some good names for a dog?

We are trying to come up with a good name for a labradoodle name. We just got a female labradoodle puppy. She is so sweet and we dont know what to name her just yet. She is a black dog, and she gets very excited. Her tail hurts when she wags it and she is very friendly. Can you tell me some good names? Thanks, and please have them be serious names. I asked a previous question on dog names, and I got some that contained prfanities.

Judge her personality!!!
What name seems to fit her?
I like Joy :)

DOG NAMES?????????????

We are getting a new puppy and its 4 months old. The dog is tan and white and is an australian shephard mix. Its a boy. We want to maybe go with an australian related name. We dont like food names. It might be cool to have a name that contradicts the dog if you get what i mean. I really like unique names, and i dont really like human names for a dog.

What is the best dog breed that would get along with small dogs and cats?

What would be the best large dog breed that would be able to get along with several small/toy breeds and cats?
I’m talking about a puppy aged large dog, would one be able to get along, or would most puppies be to aggressive to small animals?
all other pets are friendly, social, and get along.
i was leaning more towards a great dane, would this be a good or bad choice as well?

Golden retriever are the #1 but also sant Bernards and grate Dans believe it or not :-)

See, my uncle is getting a dog because he just bought a house with a back yard. Our family loves dogs but we like to name our dogs with actual names, not like fluffy,Mr. Bigglesworth etc. For Example: some of the dogs in our passed have been named Cassie, Winnie, Bill,Jackson, Woody and Janie. So if you are to answer this question, have this in mind.

Jesse, Bronx, Axel, Max, Glen, Mickey? :)

What breeds of dog can you have fingertip control over, most i want one for schutzhund?

September 26, 2011 - 9:11 pm 5 Comments

What guard dogs/ personal protection dogs are the most obedient and you can have fingertip control of? I want to do shutzhund mostly so what breeds are really good for that sport? I was thinking Doberman, Rottweiler, Belgian malinois, Belgian Tervuren?, German Shepherd, or possibly a OFRN APBT? What dog breeds do you think are best for this sport? Which one of these breeds would be good for schutzhund?

All can be great, but it’s based on how well you train them. Based on your answers about dogs, I don’t think you should get ANY of these hard headed breeds. In ALL of your answers, you pick hard headed and generally dominant breeds for the dog that you plan on getting (and it changes every time), but in your answers about training, you suggest bully-based training, and basically think every dog should be handled like you’re Cesar Millan. Dogs should not be trained like how you say, and if you do that with one of the breeds you mentioned, your dog will turn into a terror and WILL become aggressive. Please, don’t get a dog if that’s how you plan on training your dog.
