The Basics of the Rubber Guard: Zombie, New York, Chill Dog, Jiu Claw (omoplata)
November 13, 2009 - 1:04 pm
This video explains the names behind the rubber guard (why they are called what they are) and a step by step method behind the BASIC rubber guard set up.
There are MANY variations and attack positions but I only cover the basics here: mission control, zombie, new york, chill dog, kung fu move into jiu claw.
There are more advanced attacks and sweeps from anyone of those positions like: invisible collar, asylum, straight jacket, double bagger, reaper, gogoplata, locoplata, Croc, swim move and MANY more.

I could be wrong, and I’m sure you will get a proper answer. But Rubber Guard seems to be a method of controlling your opponent with your legs thus freeing the arms to use. I could be wrong.

sorry f you dont …
sorry f you dont appreciate my humor. just for the record i dont ever make fun of something/someone that can not back up what they stand for. it just helps me separate the posers and ignoramuses from those who areconfident in their own point of view. and somewhere in the middle are those who just dont get it-they can go either way and i hope i can provoke them to look at things outside the dojo dogma that is frghteningly prevalent.

The jiu claw is the …
The jiu claw is the position where you are laying on your side just before going for the omoplata. This is where the typical battle begins and the opponent tries to escape.

I don’t want to sound like an idiot, but how is the jiu claw much different from an omaplata?

Its no worries. …
Its no worries. There will always be people who disagree with ‘video’ or technique. That’s cool with me. We all get better because of it. We just offer our take on things and our opinion-just like those guys. Take the information in, mull it over and then make your own choice.

If you have a donation option, I’ll support it.

Agreed, at 145lbs, u shouldn’t be rolling with a guy that is 300lbs. If he simply applies his weight properly while in side control, or god forbid, knee on belly, u will get ur ribs crushed.

yeah there is no problem trying to make a living and like I said I am pretty sure there is TONS of great information in the stuff offered in that site. I just dont like the “you will be the best if you buy this…….” If you get what I am saying.

Point is, many …
Point is, many people don’t know where to start when it comes to training (not jiu jitsu but conditioning etc). Train hard…get information…that is the key. We offer TONS of free stuff and there is nothing wrong with trying to make a living. We offer LOTS of stuff (as you know). I think it is unfair of you to take this way out of context.

To be honest that …
To be honest that site just looks like just aother way to make money to say “This is going to be the best so you can take anyone out!” or something like that. I am pretty sure they got some pretty good techniques and some other stuff. In reality you are not going to win all your fights unless you train ULTRA HARD. Nothing else can really help you and I am pretty sure you know that.

dude…the guy is …
dude…the guy is 300lbs! Of course it is going to be hard to break him down. The RG isn’t a magic bullet. You need to play a different game with someone that big. I would STRONGLY suggest practicing with people in your weight category not someone who is 300 lbs.

I have Eddies book and his DVD. I still have a hard time breaking down and keeping bigger, stronger opponents there. One particular guy is 300 lbs and I am 145 lbs. It is impossible to even break him down let alone keep him there. Any immediate advice? Besides my RG sucks and need more work. I already know that. Thanks =)
