Is there a pattern for fabric dog collar online?

April 12, 2010 - 7:20 pm 1 Comment

Looking for a pattern to make a fabric dog collar.

The problem with fabric is that it will stretch. If you want to make your own buy nylon webbing, you should be able to find it anywhere you can get horse supplies. They will also have the buckles and rings you will need.

can a change in dog collar change your dog?

April 10, 2010 - 9:12 pm 15 Comments

We’ve recently gotten our dog a Martingale collar over the nylon one we’ve been using to date. We want corrections to be immediate and effective and not at all harmful to him. We felt with nylon alone it was too risky, but with the Martingale he can’t really be hurt and the snapping sound is more what causes the effect when used correctly.

The challenge now seems to be when he does get excited and begins to pull, writhe around etc…he’s a bit surprised by the Martingale collar closing in on him and isn’t sure how to react. As before the nylon collar didn’t get his attention at all. So now he gets a bit over-excited before he realizes his resistance is futile. Which is fine for me because I can handle him, correct him and move on. My girlfriend has more trouble with this and is wondering if the change in collar has made it more of a challenge for her as well as the dog.

My theory is consistency and timing is the best approach to correction, and the collar is not the problem.
I should stress, for those of you questioning our abilities, our dog has been through 3 obedience courses and a tricks class. He is well mannered and obedient in most respects. We are merely working on a few problem areas that are specifically related to leash walking with specific distractions. 95% he walks right by our side with the leash slacked.

I agree with you. I feel that if you are making the corrections right away before he is getting away with anything, he is going to move forward much more quickly. If your girlfriend is not correcting fast enough and allows him to pull, it is going to get him excited and he is going to give her a hard time and not settle down as fast. Perhaps she needs a trainer to show her how it is done. Sometimes it’s best coming from a third party and not the boyfriend. Once she gets it and gains confidence then she should be fine. Good luck!

Has anyone tried the dog collar sprayer to stop barking?

April 6, 2010 - 11:09 pm 6 Comments

We are moving to a new rental. My dog barks at everything. I wanted to try the painless dog collar with the sprayer that activates when he barks. I didn’t know if that was effective or worth the money. Also, it come with regular scent and citronella. Is there a difference? I wanted to know before I plunk down the $75!

Thank you so much for your help!

My sister has two dogs and uses the spray collars. They work really well and it does’t hurt the dogs like the shock collars

Where to find a Burberry dog collar?

April 5, 2010 - 12:18 am 4 Comments

My mom just bought my dog the cutest bed, with suede on one side and fake burberry on the other. I was wondering where I could find a matching burberry like collar or leash for him.

Google it on the internet, you might find one.
