    GREAT DOG, two …
GREAT DOG, two things new owners should know right away. These dogs are SMART, if you have a gate well mine learned how to open the latch, and they can clear a standard fence with one easy jump. They have too much Energy for a Standard yard these dogs need a farm with animals.. goats or sheep are good.. they will just herd them naturally.

    Mine also liked Mozart.

    ACDs are very good …
ACDs are very good dogs. I’ve had one for 14 years and never had issues with nipping or anything. They are loyal and protective and they are also sweet and affectionate. They are easy to train, you just have to work with them and show them a lot of love.
ACDs are good house dogs, you just need to exercise them and give them activities. Walk them, even if you have a yard, or they get fat and bored! ACDs can do a lot and need a variety of things to do, repetition bores them.

    There is part …
There is part Dalmation in all ACd’s. It was added to control the cattledogs from herding the horses as well as the cattle.

    You obviously know …
You obviously know nothing about blue’ es!!!!

  10. mdk572 Says:

    They are very, very …
They are very, very easy to train if you use the right methods. Look up “Skidboot’ if you doubt what these dogs can be taught.

  11. mdk572 Says:

    They are either red …
They are either red or blue and tan. Red dogs can have black hairs, too many are a fault in the show ring. Blue dogs can have excessive tan, called ‘creeping tan’ which is also a show ring fault.

  12. mdk572 Says:

    Just because they …
Just because they both have the piebald gene – which leads to them being born white – it doesn’t mean that ACDs got the gene from the Dalmation.

There are many other breeds of dog that carry this gene including the ACDs ancestor the Northumberland Drovers Dog.

Deafness is associated with this gene.

  13. PaintsNHeelers Says:

    Find someone who …
Find someone who trains or breeds these dogs, get educated before getting one. They require a LOT of socialization and must have a job.
I have six of them, and would not trade them for nothing in the world. They require a lot of time though.

  14. PaintsNHeelers Says:

    You are Wrong! …
You are Wrong! Dalmations are definitely in the background of these dogs. That is why the pups are born white with any black markings ( or red) and turn blue or red at about 4-5 weeks of age.

  18. keith00032 Says:

    I had a awesome …
I had a awesome blue heeler when I was a kid, but one day he got bucked in the head by our neighboors horse (He was natrually trying to herd it) and he was never the same after so we hd to put him down. I still love that dog.

  19. DerickM355 Says:

    Absolutely, blue’es …
Absolutely, blue’es yes they are nuts, they have an instinct to herd cattle or anything else, to be a good watch dog, but anything else yes they are mad and nuts. Not exactly your average family ‘lap dog’. What is this ACD stuff ????? And trainability 3 out of 4 I bet there are many people in OZ that would have a giggle over that one.

But to all Americans sure we’ll tell you they’re easy to train.

We have Roos jumping down the local streets too remember!!!

  23. WickedLy15 Says:

    yes thats the most …
yes thats the most likely origin of it

  24. mdk572 Says:

    Simply and quietly …
Simply and quietly give him something he can bite on. Carry a tug toy to distract him, let him carry something in his mouth.

Slapping or screaming will be ineffective and may be met with agression. Remember he is bred to fight back when challenged by something a lot bigger than you.

  25. mdk572 Says:

    Both Dalmatians and …
Both Dalmatians and Cattle Dogs (and other breeds) carry the piebald gene which is linked to deafness. It’s a myth that ACDs have Dalmatian blood.
