How long would 50 lbs of dog food last for a small maltese dog?

March 12, 2010 - 1:36 am 9 Comments

thanks if you could tell me!!! planning on getting a dog, and if you have ANY training tips, PLEASE tell me :) And i woud feed the dog 3 times a day right?

It would go stale before you would use all of it. I got a Chihuahua in July, and I bought 15 lbs of puppy food then.I still have about 4 lbs left. So it would be better to buy smaller bags unless you can store the food in air-tight containers in a cool, dark place. And yes,3 or 4 small meals a day.

Edit: Toy breeds, especailly puppies, need 3-4 small meals a day to keep their blood sugar up and make sure that they get enough calories. When they are old enough to be spayed or neutered ( 6 months old),you can reduce the feedings to 2 a day.

would a american bull dog get along with my small maltese dog?

March 9, 2010 - 10:13 pm 7 Comments

if i were to get a american bulldog as a puppy would it get along with my maltese.(my maltese dog is friendly with other dogs and her weight is 10 lbs.)

I suggest that you do a TON more homework on the breed.

American Bulldogs are frequently small animal aggressive. It’s a desirable trait in American Bulldogs.

Maltese are small animals.

Even getting the AmBulldog as a puppy will not fix this breed trait. If the Maltese surprised the American Bulldog one day, he’ll be lunch.

How long does it take for the coat of a Maltese dog to grow to the ground?

March 7, 2010 - 10:23 pm 1 Comment

My Maltese has a coat that is like 2 inches long right now and pretty easy to manage. I want to let her coat grow out. How long does it take to reach the ground? I don’t necessarily want a show coat (TOO hard to manage) but I certainly think a few more inches would be good in the winter. How long does it take for their coat to reach the ground?

if its still a puppy about one to two yrs. because of their puppy coat has to fall out before the adults coat grows. If its a adult then about 1/2 yr to the floor but u must care for it everyday!!! because if it get tangle then u will have to cut.

is a tea cup maltese dog more popular than a Bichonn Frise?

March 6, 2010 - 12:13 am 5 Comments

I want to know what dog breed is more popular to buy between a tea cup maltese or a Bichon frise. and what is the difference between these two dogs. and which one is easier to handle and train if you live in a small appartment.

MALTESE!
i have one and they are the most precious animals ever. Your dog will love you and protect you(well even though they are small they think they are big, and will try to). Maltese’s also have nice hair than Bichonn Frise’s which means its easier to handle. My maltese lives in a small home and they are very active but dont take up a lot of space to be active. Also they are smaller than bichonns which measn you can take him to the store!

Why does my maltese dog run away from home when he is out?

March 1, 2010 - 10:30 pm 2 Comments

We have 2 acres of land living out in the country. We do not have a fenced in yard for our maltese. Is this a reason why he would run off?

I have a maltese and she LOVES TO RUN! When I first got her she got out and would run and run, she thought it was a game, scary for me though! Idn if its in the breed or not but how far is he getting? the only thing to do is make sure he listens to come(the clicker helps like a charm!) or to fence it in.
sorry i wans’t more help good luck

Why does my maltese dog have some fur on his face that is similar to whiskers?

February 27, 2010 - 11:16 pm 5 Comments

My maltese is a male and he is three years old. On his face most of the fur is normal but there are a fur strands of almost "plasticy" hair that stick up and are hard and look and feel almost like whiskers. Is this normal or is this something I should be concerned about? Please help!
He’s not a wire haired breed….he’s a maltese
I thought whiskers were only for cats???

maltese are not wire haired dogs so im guessing they are whiskers as well it should not be anything to worry about

Are airedale terriers good with other dogs? Specifically the Maltese dog breed.?

February 25, 2010 - 11:29 pm 3 Comments

I am house sitting/babysitting an Airedale terrier and I know nothing about this dog breed. I have a Maltese but he can live with my parents for the week. However, I wanted to know if I introduced the 2 dogs how would the airedale terrier treat my maltese?

Depends on the specific dogs involved and less on their breeds. Introduce them on neutral territory (which neither sees as their own) and see how they do. As with any small dog/large dog pairing, make sure they aren’t left alone together unsupervised as serious injury could result for the smaller dog, even in play.
