How often do Dog Breeders arrange a new Litter?

December 19, 2009 - 7:45 am 12 Comments

I’ve been trying to convince my parents to get a dog, and it’s pretty much working. A breeder close to where i live is expecting a litter in January of next year. If my parents don’t decide if we are definetly getting a dog my then, when will they have their next litter? Does it all depend on the breeder, or do most breeders have a new litter every few months? please i need some answers!!

A responsible breeder will have another litter in 6 months to a year, preferably a year. You don’t have to get a dog from that one breeder though. There are many dogs waiting for their forever home.

What are the nicest, most trainable toy dog breeds out there?

December 19, 2009 - 7:45 am 10 Comments

I live in an apartment and am looking into buying a toy dog. Most of the breeds I have looked at (including Poms and Pugs) are either inclined to bite or difficult to housetrain. I want to find a toy breed that’s friendly, affectionate, and relatively easy to housebreak. Is that possible? Feel free to report your experience with any particular toy breeds.

There are many Papillons that have earned top obedience awards. However, neither my pug nor my Chihuahua were difficult to train. You might check with your local shelter. Many times you will find a small dog already trained, and its worth a shot.
You will find shelter dogs listed on www.petfinder.com, if you are in North America

What kind of small to medium dog breed is the best?

December 19, 2009 - 7:45 am 13 Comments

I’m looking for a dog, preferably a small to medium (like beagle). I want one that is a good lap dog and/or enjoys long walks. Preferrably, one that doesn’t shed or bark much. Also, it must have a great personality! Which breed do you recommend? Thanks!

I would recommend these breed of dogs because I have had them before:

Beagles are good if you have the time and energy to keep up with them and they are very good escape artists. they especially love to hunt almost anything.

Pomeranian are good but I warn you they sometimes don’t mix well with kids. they are major shredders but are very good lap dogs.

Maltese are good lap dogs but you must tolerate their grooming but they don’t shred much. You must also tolerate their energetic personality because they love to jump and run around alot. they love to bark at birds and cats.

German Spitz (Mittel) are excellent companions and very good lap dogs with an excellent nature (at least mine is) and gets on really well with people and kids. Doesn’t shred heaps but needs regular walks and grooming. some of them are really fussy eaters. This is the breed I most recommend because I have one for four years and he only barks occasionally and shreds only at summertime and winter.

Pioneer German Shepherds breeds sweet-tempered plush and long coat (long haired) German Shepherd Dogs that are oversized with a laidback temperament. Please note that our dogs are NOT Shiloh Shepherds but are distantly related, with larger size and less angulation than most GSD. Nor are they King Shepherds, however they are above average in size (some say king sized) with a large-boned structure. However, all are AKC German Shepherd Dogs. Puppies are whelped indoors and raised underfoot in our home with lots of love, occasionally available to select companion homes. Is the English Setter dog a health breed?

December 16, 2009 - 4:55 pm 2 Comments

Is the English Setter dog a health breed or not?
If not a health breed please tell me what the health issue are.
Thanks

The English Setter is a very gentle, placid, friendly dog. They are excellent with children and loves affection.Enthusiastic and lively outdoors, but relatively inactive indoors. They also get along well and enjoy playing with other dogs.

They need to have a authoritative and firm owner otherwise they will become dominant.
Rules, structure and training should start early to prevent development of bad habits.

With every breed there tends to be common problems.

Be careful not to overfeed this breed, for they tend to gain weight easily.

The are prone to hip dysplasia and false pregnancies.

If you are thinking of taking on any puppy, I recommend reading thoroughly about the breed and raising a puppy in general.

I found ‘The perfect puppy’ by Gwen Bailey to be a helpful resource.

Good Luck :)
