My service dog and I got kicked out of the mental health?

November 24, 2009 - 5:51 am 3 Comments

My chocolate lab retriever 10 years old Shae and I got kicked out of the mental health. All because she bark and growl at other service dog. My dog is never mean to people. She get along with my younger dog at home. But any other dogs she’ll bark and growl. They said we are not allowed back to the mental health because my dog bark and growl at other service dog. Shae is on the leash, I have her with me all the time. Do you think the mental health can do that? She my service dog to help with my panic, anixtey, depression. Without her I’ll go in attacks. Beside she doesn’t really run into service dogs that often just once in a great while.

Well a service dog is supposed be trained to be sociable with everyone, I would take Shae to either a trainer who specifically handles correcting problems or you can even bring her to someplace like Petsmart where they have Socialization classes as well. Also take in to consideration that Shae is getting older and maybe that alone is a reason behind it. Try retraining, that should help and then you can decide if you want to return to the same facility for counseling or choose another one. Best of luck & God Bless.

How to tell if a dog breeder is part of a puppy mill?

November 24, 2009 - 5:50 am 12 Comments

I live in PA, and looking to get a dog from Greenfield Puppies. The dog I want is very rare(a puginese) and Greenfield Puppies is the only place I can get this kind of dog in PA. I just did research online, and some forums I came across were saying that the breeders that advertise on Greenfield Puppies are moslty ran from puppy mills. So how will I know if the breeder of the the dog I want is a puppy mill?

Alrite since you didnt ask to be CRITICIZED on your breed choice I will be kind enough to answer your question. If they truly care about the dogs, the premesis and dogs are clean and uncrowded you should be alrite but be sure and get a health guarantee

Do dog breeders really accept Visa or Mastercard?

November 24, 2009 - 5:50 am 22 Comments

My parents are trying to find a respectable dog breeder and they have found some that accept visa or mastercard. Is accepting credit for a puppy a major clue that it is a puppy mill?

Any good advice on how to find a respectable yet local dog breeder?

Generally not the good ones, no. Never trust a breeder who takes payments over the internet, and wants to ship a puppy to you. You need to meet the breeder and see their dogs in person.

One of the best ways to find a responsible breeder in your area is to google the National club for the breed (i.e. Siberian Husky Club of America, Yorkshire Terrier Club of America, etc.) – most national club websites have breeder listings, these days.

Breeders who are members of their national club are people actually involved in the welfare of the breed (as opposed to making money off it).

An alternate idea is to google breed clubs in your state (i.e. "Boxer Club, California) – local breed clubs can give you referrals, too.

ADD: Jen…I understand that, but Joe Puppy Buyer, looking for a Yorkie puppy, doesn’t need to make that kind of sacrifice. Are 90% of the people asking questions here looking for a rare breed?

And I maintain that you don’t buy a dog sight unseen from a breeder you’ve never met. Even if that means flying to Europe.

How do I keep these dog breeds sheding under control?

November 24, 2009 - 5:50 am 5 Comments

I want to get either a German Shepherd , a lab, or a Golden Reteriver.
I know their all really good dog breeds but my dad wants the one who sheds the least and they all shed a lot from what I hear.

So my question is does anyone know any ways to help control the sheding?

The most important thing is a good diet. Don’t feed a food that contains corn.
the FURminator really does work wonders:

Brush them daily to get any new loose hairs.
Dogs will literally dump their coats when they are over-heated, so keep them cool and comfortable. .

What dog breed out of these should I get next?

November 24, 2009 - 5:50 am 12 Comments

I’m an experienced dog-trainer and I’m planning on getting a new dog first. Which breed should I get?

A pitbull
-or-
A doberman
I’m asking this question because I’m only able to get dog and I love both these breeds so much, I can’t make up my mind which! I was hoping you guys could help… but obviously you’ve missed that point!

I disagree with all the people above. Just because you are experienced, that doesn’t mean it makes it easier for you to make up your mind on which breed to get!

I’d say a dobie, since they are just as sleek and handsome, easy to train and very bright!
